Hello Ladies!
* I’ve heard a rumour that we’ll be getting summer soon. Let’s hope so.
* Many thanks to Norman Joy and Magnificent Marilyn, for hosting our May Affairre! It was a very pleasant, relaxed event.
* This month our hostesses Diamond Lil (Zimmerman) and Lake Lorraine (Hedman) are planning a luncheon at Casey’s Restaurant at 1 p.m. on the 14th for our June Affairre! Personally, I’m delighted to have it a little later and know it will be easier for anyone using Handi Transit. Remember ladies, please think positive. There were quite a few of us, especially our hostesses at the time, upset by the attitude of our server the last time we were at Casey’s but we’ve had several very pleasant Affaire!s there, too.
* Ladies, I know our hostesses for this month have carefully read the recommendations in the Hostess Handbook but all too often they are not read. Sometimes this is because those hostesses for the month have done so several times before and have a pretty good “handle” on things. From time to time there are additions or changes, though, as we learn from our various experiences. Some hostesses have said they didn’t know there was a handbook in the bag. These are recommendations, not rules but some of them are quite important and they are intended to help make things go smoothly and ensure that everyone is comfortable with whatever arrangements are made. Please, ladies, when you are planning an Affairre!, take a few minutes to go over them. If anyone would like a copy of the recommendations I’ll be happy to provide one.
* I’m delighted to tell you that I’ve heard from all three of our honorary members recently. Eleanor, from Chilliwack, is already back at her summer place. Darlene, from Calgary will be back in July but I’m not sure if it will be in time for our July Affairre! Leslie, from California, will be here as usual in August. It will be great to see them again and get caught up on what their chapters are doing. Not long ago Leslie attended a tea and when everyone was asked what chapters they belonged to they were quite impressed that she is an honorary member of ours.
* Those of us able to go to Fort Frances last month for the delayed celebration of International Red Hat day had a great time. Queen “B” Patti (Anderson) and her chapter really went all out. She and I are considering collaborating on an event next spring.
* Ladies I’ve had a Red Hat Moment and mixed up my dates a bit. As you know, we’re invited to a luncheon in Ignace on August 16. I thought we had until June 21 to send in the money for this but find, on checking the information again, that it’s June 15. I’ve emailed the host chapter and asked for an extension. We’ll have to collect ($20) from anyone who’d like to go this Saturday at our Affairre! and get it in to them right away. There are quite a few of you who’ve never been to an invitational event before and I really encourage you to consider it. We always have a lot of fun. I know gas prices are pretty scary right now but by car pooling and sharing that expense we can keep the cost down very well.
* We’ll have total of 3 sign up sheets at our Affairre! this month – one, as mentioned above for the luncheon in Ignace, one for the brunch in Winnipeg July 26, and one for the Keewatin July 1 parade. I hope we’ll be represented at all three but especially at the parade. No one will have to walk as they will provide a truck for us and we can sit back and show everyone how much fun it is to be a Red Hatter. If anyone would like to get together to make some posters or banners for the event please let me know.
* I know some of you are wondering why I put our newsletter on a blog and it’s really quite simple. Most of you know I like playing around with my computer and this is one more thing I find really neat to do. The important reason, though, is that there are a number of members who delete the newsletter as soon as they read it and then can’t remember it’s details, and there are also some members who share their computer with someone who takes it upon himself to delete anything he’s not interested in. This way the newsletter is available online for a month to make sure everyone can keep up to date. As you notice, I’m trying a new blog server this month. After more than six months on blogspot I am just now hearing from ladies who have never been able to access it. I like some of the features of this one better and I’m hoping it will be accessible for all. If you hear of anyone who hasn’t been able to open it, please remind her to let me know as soon as possible.
* That’s about it for now ladies. See you on the 14th!
