Hello Ladies,
* Whoohoo!!!!! Summer has finally arrived! It was well worth the wait.
There are drawbacks, though. In July we must bid Adieu to one of our charter members. Awesome Audrey (Wyber) and her husband, Bob, are moving to Vancouver where their children and grandchildren live. Please don’t miss our July Affairre! as it will be a special farewell event for her.
* The Red Hatter, Louise, called to say she won’t be able to participate in the Canada Day Parade in Keewatin with us this year as she is about to start a new round of therapy. We look forward to her restored health. Her great attitude is an inspiration to many of us.
* Many thanks to our June hostesses, Darlin’ Darlene and Trucia of Locke Bay. Wasn’t it fun to surprise Darlene with her reduation? Imagine, planning your own birthday party and not even knowing it!
* Diamond Lil (Zimmerman), Peachie (Lorna Cormack), and I will host our next Affairre!, July 11, rain or shine. This will be a pot luck picnic supper at my house and we’d like everyone to bring cold food only. We have some fun activities planned we’d like you to begin arriving at 4:30 p.m. (Please don’t come earlier than that.) I have a limited number of lawn chairs so if you can bring your own it will really help. Please RSVP to Lil or me by Thurs., July 9.
* Barbie Doll (Barb Morgan) and Shotgun Annie (Ferguson), who were to plan our August Affairre, have decided not to be members of our chapter anymore. I am still none the wiser about this. This leaves us in need of hostesses for August. The following members are not on this year’s hostess schedule: Dazzling Donnie, Jolly Jess, Lovable Linda, The Lady of Round Lake, Marguerite the Jewel, Magnificent Marilyn, Magnificent Myrtle. Two of these ladies are dealing with health concerns and ongoing family crises but that still leaves 5. I’d like to know as soon as possible who will take this on. Please note that we now have a much smaller membership list which means that everyone has to be involved with hostessing, especially as some like to work in groups of three or more. Those not on this year’s list should be sure to put their names on next year’s as soon as it is circulated.
* Ladies, as I mentioned last month, there have been some major financial changes in the Red Hat Society that will have an impact on every member worldwide. There are lots of concerns about the scope of these changes and how they are being handled. There is, at the same time, a movement started to form yet another Canadian society, but this one doesn’t appear to be a business and, if handled properly, will perhaps be much more suitable. There is a lot to discuss about both so please try to attend as many of our Affairre!s over the next few months as you can so that you have a chance to express your opinion and help decide the direction(s) our chapter should take. Those who attended June’s Affairre!got a handout about this and I’ll have copies in July for those who weren’t there. Hopefully by then I’ll have some updates, too.
* For Keewatin’s Canada Day Parade this year, instead of using a trailer we’ll be riding in style in Peachie’s red minivan, led by Sundance Audrey on her motorcycle! Normally we can take a total of 5 or 6 people in the van but for a slow moving parade we can add a couple of stools quite safely. If there’s not enough room we can always take someone else’s car, too. Please be at my house by 11:30 a.m. to help decorate. Peachie and I will be going out for lunch after the parade. We’d love to have everyone else join us.
* This month’s birthday girls are Red Hot Margeurita, Darlin’ Darlene, and Gracious Gwen. Remember – if your birthday is not on our list please be sure to let me know so that I can include it in your month.
* Registrations have been sent in for those who’ve already paid to attend the Quarry Quties’ Red Hat Hootenany in Stonewall, Manitoba on Sat., Oct. 3 from 1 to 6 p.m. If you haven’t paid but would like to go, we may be able to register a few more but should do it as soon as possible.
Each participating chapter is to bring a gift basket for a door prize. I’d appreciate it if one of you would put ours together. This will be paid for from our chapter registration funds. Please let me know if you’d like to do this.
I will be attending this event and can take up to 4 passengers so we’ll need some more drivers. I think it would be a good idea to use some of our Fun Fund to pay for gas for all the drivers for this trip.
* If you’re interested in a Red Hat Cruise next year, please check out the information below.
* For all who like to make the rounds of garage sales in the summer, I know lots of people have Christmas decorations to sell. Don’t forget to look for large red outdoor bows for the city’s big tree.
* I think that’s it for now, ladies. If I’ve forgotten anything, please let me know.
* See you all on the 11th!
In Friendship and Fun
