Chic ‘n Sassy’s Newsletter – August 2009

Hello Ladies,
* Remember the newscast in March when the “expert” from Environment Canada said we were going to have an exceptionally hot summer? I wonder what year he was talking about.
* Many thanks to Diamond Lil and Peachie, my co-hostesses for July. It was a bittersweet occasion as it was our last Affairre! with Awesome Audrey, who leaves this week to start the next chapter in her life in Vancouver.
* Darlin’ Darlene (Dyck), and Trucia of Locke Bay (Trucia Howard), and I will host our next Affairre!, August 8, at Annie’s Café, 39 Matheson St.. S. This will be a brunch buffet beginning at 11:00 a.m. The cost will be $10.99 per person. Please be sure to RSVP by Thurs., Aug. 6. We are most grateful for these two ladies offering to hostess again so soon.
* Please note, ladies that as our membership is much smaller than in past years, everyone has to take a turn each year to hostess. Otherwise, as is happening this year, some end up doing it twice. This is really not fair so if you weren’t on this year’s hostess list, please make sure you’re on it for next year. If, when you have a chance to sign the list, the only months you are available to do so are already taken, please try to arrange a switch so that everyone takes a turn.
* Ladies, as I mentioned before, there have been some major financial changes in the Red Hat Society that will have an impact on every member worldwide. There are lots of concerns about the scope of these changes and how they are being handled. There is, at the same time, a movement started to form yet another Canadian society, but this one doesn’t appear to be a business and, if handled properly, will perhaps be much more suitable. There is a lot to discuss about both so please try to attend as many of our Affairre!s over the next few months as you can so that you have a chance to express your opinion and help decide the direction(s) our chapter should take. Those who attended June’s Affairre! got a handout about this and I’ll have copies in July for those who weren’t there. Hopefully by then I’ll have some updates, too.
* For Keewatin’s Canada Day Parade this year we rode in style in Peachie’s red minivan, led by Sundance Audrey on her motorcycle! We got some awesome comments, especially Sundance Audrey.
* This month’s birthday girls are Lake Lorraine, The Glad Hatter, Jolly Jess, and the The Islander Duchess. Remember – if your birthday is not on our list please be sure to let me know so that I can include it in your month.
* We have registered 6 members for the Quarry Quties’ Red Hat Hootenany in Stonewall, Manitoba on Sat., Oct. 3 from 1 to 6 p.m. They will accept up to 200 members and our confirmations are numbered around 100 which means there are lots more places. If you’d like to go, please let me know ASAP.
Each participating chapter is to bring a gift basket for a door prize. I’d appreciate it if one of you would put ours together. This will be paid for from our chapter registration funds. Please let me know if you’d like to do this.
I will be attending this event and can take up to 4 passengers so we’ll need at least one more driver. We will be paying for gas for this trip from our Fun Fund which will keep individual costs down quite a bit.
* For all who like to make the rounds of garage sales in the summer, I know lots of people have Christmas decorations to sell. Don’t forget to look for large red outdoor bows for the city’s big tree. Here’s a good tip for making some and maybe we’ll have a party to do so. For the Canada Day Parade, since we were riding in a red van, I got some purple plastic tablecloths at the Dollar Store to cut up for bows. It worked really well and is a good way to provide lots of bows for the tree at a minimum cost. I’ll keep you posted on plans for this.
* I think that’s it for now, ladies. If I’ve forgotten anything, please let me know.
* See you all on the 8th!

In Friendship and Fun
Queen Debbie of the Lake
